I selected IMPACT as my first choice for work experience, and after being accepted I was overjoyed! At first I was nervous as it was the first time I had worked in an official company. However, as soon as I walked into the company all the uneasiness left and I was welcomed kindly by all the Impacters! I expected to walk into a formal office environment but working at IMPACT has given me a completely different view on how offices would ‘normally’ be presented. Instead, the office was cool and trendy; everyone was super friendly and relaxed!
I got to work straight away and over the first few days helped different members of staff with various types of research. I was able to shadow in each division which helped me understand the role they all play in the smooth running of the company. I was even able to shadow a candidate interview which gave me further insight into the company and helped me understand exactly what the staff look for when they are recruiting.
Later in the week I was taught how to answer and respond to different types of phone calls and how to talk to candidates who walk in for interviews. Normally I am quite shy and lack confidence but this type of role play and interaction helped me improve on my communication skills. Slowly over the week I was growing in confidence and approaching tasks with more assertiveness.
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my week work experience; the company has been amazing and made me feel extremely comfortable. I have learnt so much about how the company operates day to day and learnt new skills that I can now transfer to future employment. Thanks Impact!
