NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK 2016
This week it is National Career's week! A week where we are
celebrating the guidance and free resources in education across the
UK. During this week: Schools, Academies and Colleges offer
workshops to provide all their students with careers advice and
guidance - #helpful!
For this year's Careers week, BU (Bournemouth University),
amongst others, has organized four workshops which has been
designed to educate students on: interviewing; writing a CV and
business start-up support! Keeping up with all things techno, not
only can the students Skype chat BU graduates, but they can also
access these sessions via Tablets! Oh and it doesn't finish there…
BU has also managed to 'bag' itself numerous sponsors, including:
RBS (which has also secured the event in 2017/18); National Careers
Service; We Can; Emi Farm; CDI and Apprenticeships!
This has got us thinking about what we can do to help young
people start their own careers. We at Impact already are part of
Inspire, sending our experienced consultants out to high schools in
the area and talking to pupils about the opportunities they have
and might not have thought about, but for those of you not
attending school in the Hackney area, here's some key career's
advice from those same consultants:
Nick (MD): "Always make sure you
tailor your CV to the job you're applying for, a single sentence
can rule you out of an interview!"
Michelle (Head of Support): "Dress for the
job you want, not the job you have! And never apologise for
anything you plan on doing again"
John (Head of Digital): "Don't pick a
job, pick a boss. Your first boss is the biggest factor in your
career success. A boss who doesn't trust you won't give you
opportunities to grow."
Lisa (Snr HR Consultant): "The only person
stopping you from doing anything, is you! Work hard and dream
