Our successful project Future Proofing Talent Though Diversity programme, saw Impact facilitating a tour, talk and workshop at creative agency, Grey London.

In collaboration with mentoring charity ReachOut, we were hosting a diverse class of 13 year old boys from Wapping High School.

Both Justine Johnson (Business Partner) and Jordan Hutchinson (Account Executive) at Grey gave a brilliant overview and insight into advertising and the creative world.  Beginning with an office tour that gave the students their first experience of a working creative environment.

Their presentation explained what an advertising agency is, how they work, and what’s involved to create such amazing campaigns. Justine and Jordan spoke about the different departments and roles within the agency, detailing their specific day-to-day responsibilities and what part they play in executing exciting ads. From account management to creative and post-production, the boys put their hand up for which department they could visualise themselves in one day. Evidently the group was intrigued, given the questions they asked were so intelligent, focused and well thought-through.

The group were then split into teams and were tasked with creating their very own campaign and presenting it to Grey! The boys quickly learned the challenges of working with a team, ensuring their ideas were realistic yet creative, in budget and on brief!  We were all impressed to hear such innovative ideas, recognising the need to have a brand purpose and target a specific audience. They seemed to all be having fun, choosing what social channels would be most beneficial for their product.

The students were extremely positive about the experience saying “… I enjoyed using my communication skills and being given the freedom to be creative during the workshop”.

Overall, it was a productive morning and one that we hope inspires this group to consider a future career in the industry.

Thanks again to both ReachOut for connecting us with these young people and to Grey for such an excellent workshop!
