HR in the Hot Seat – 5 mins with Lauren New, Learning & Leadership Manager – Dentsu Aegis
What do you love most about your job?
The freedom to be creative. Engaging people with training and development in such an innovative company means I constantly need to think of new and different ways of doing things. This makes my job very fun!
What are the three things you couldn’t do without?
My internal network! I often get to work with the best creative minds in the company to help deliver a great learning experience – there are so many skilled people from designers through to analysts and some great presenters, not to mention the fabulous HR team!
A bit geeky, but our new LMS has changed my job from a lot of admin to being able to communicate with the click of a button- which saves me loads of time.
And Coffee! For those 3pm dips!
What do you think makes a good recruiter?
A good recruiter knows the company they are recruiting for from top to bottom and especially what the ambition of the company is – this means they are able to think ahead and recruit the best talent to support the delivery of those ambitions.
Who has been your greatest influence?
I’ve worked with some really inspirational people- there are two ladies in particular who stand out for me.
Lindsay Partridge is an L&D consultant currently with Dentsu Aegis and my coach. She is a great training designer and has such a passion for her role, it’s infectious! She carries positivity and energy in every element of her job which is something I admire.
The other is Fiona McKay who helps us deliver our management development programme. Fiona is incredibly glamorous! She remains so calm and collected and definitely owns the room when she trains.
What are your tips for success?
Always remember your end goal, sometimes things don’t go to plan but if you persevere you will get there. Don’t be afraid to adapt your style and if you take every experience as a lesson learned, it’ll be even more satisfying when you achieve your goals.
What do you do after a stressful day?
I’m very musical and am in a choir – singing at the top of your voice is great therapy!
