Video content is finally appearing on Spotify according to reports, “Coming Soon”!
Spotify’s VP of product, Shiva Rajaraman has said that “Obviously our primary user is a music fan, and they are not necessarily leaning in and looking into the app,” he said. “So there are no particular recipes for how to get this right.” But on that note, with a few Key partners thrown in to create content like: ABC, Condé Nast Entertainment, Turner’s Adult Swim, TBS and Fusion – this could be a big hit!
The clever thing about this in-app expansion is that instead of just adding in music videos for the songs you’re already listening to, the content will be separate to your music, bringing selected videos to your attention based on your likes and dislikes. Your preferences are deciphered from the genres of music you usually listen to which seems intelligent, but as in the office we listen to everything from 50 cent to Meatloaf…I don’t know what would turn up on IMPACT’s Spotify account!
The streaming service is said to be introducing video to its Android app first, with iOS appearing by shortly after, firstly in the UK, the USA, Germany and Sweden. The service had been testing video content over the last few months with less than 10% of its users in those four launch markets – So what are the results?
“This [launch] is fundamentally about giving music fans what they want” said Rajaraman, so I guess we’ll be the judge!
